One of the UK’s leading beef producers has announced a deal with a global genetics company to look into ways of developing more sustainable and higher-quality meat.
The multi-year agreement between ABP and Genus aims to bring the kind of genetic advances seen in the pork and poultry sectors into the beef market, the companies said.
The two businesses will collaborate to improve beef genetics within ABP’s supply chain, which will see the companies working together to deliver animals that offer better feed to weight gain efficiencies, improved carcase values, and better-quality meat.
While ABP hopes to gain from improvements within its supply chain and with the end-product, Genus will be paid a royalty from the Irish processor for the genetic value that it delivers.
