ABU DHABI: International Emirati documentary ‘The Tainted Veil’ will be screened in Laemmle’s Playhouse cinema in Los Angeles, USA, on Oct.16, Friday, for a week, Anasy Media production, Abu Dhabi announced on Sunday.
“The Tainted Veil, a UAE production, looks into the origins of the hijab, its place in societies today and its implications and effects over the centuries. It will also discuss the things that have led to the hijab becoming a source of endless debate worldwide. The documentary, produced by Anasy Media, was shot in nine countries and looks at Muslims from around the world, focusing on their reasons for deciding to wear the veil, or abstaining from doing so. It’s a collaboration between veteran documentary filmmaker Ovidio Salazar, Emirati Nahla Al Fahad and Mazen Al Khayrat.
This experimental documentary produced by Alyazia Bint Nahyan Al Nahyan, portrays a mixture of opinion from around the world; taking a look through the eyes of the women who decide to wear the veil, or not. With historical context and leading specialists, the facts about the hijab lay bare. Anasy Media’s “The Tainted Veil” was recently screened at a private showing, attended by 85 guests in London in June 2015.
Among the guests at the special red carpet event at Hampstead’s Everyman cinema, were Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and the UAE Ambassador to London, Abdulrahman Ghanem Almutaiwee, CVO.
