2016-03-24 by Hafiz M. Ahmed

global-muslim-travel-indexAccording to the MasterCard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2016 issued recently, Malaysia, UAE, and Turkey become top three destinations for Muslim tourists from around the world. The index covers 130 destinations in the world.

Both Malaysia and UAE retained their first and second positions respectively. However, Turkey now becomes third on the list of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) travel destinations,

In May, Turkey will host world’s biggest international conference on halal tourism with the Halal Tourism Conference 2016 in Konya bringing together some of the world’s leading names in the travel industry.

The Turkish government has been making strenuous efforts to promote halal tourism to boost its economy.  However, the efforts may be stalled due to the recent bombings in the country.
