One Halal Chicken Slaughtering Centre In Every
District By December, 2014 – Ismail Sabri
PUTRAJAYA, Every district nationwide will have at least a chicken slaughtering centre by the end of the year.
Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in order to meet the target, the Veterinary Services Department (JPV) would cooperate with the relevant agencies under the state governments.
“The slaughtering of chicken is a big issue. The media has played up issues on the improper slaughtering of chicken in the past,” he told a media conference after attending his ministry’s monthly gathering at Wisma Tani here, Teusday.
He also said about 1,900 chicken slaughtering centres nationwide were currently being registered to facilitate the issuing of halal certificates.
Ismail Sabri, prior to this, it was reported that almost 80 percent of slaughter centres were unlicensed and had yet to be registered with JPV.
The unlicensed chicken slaughtering centres were small shop operators whose halal status was questionable in terms of their slaughtering methods, he said.
Ismail Sabri said he also hoped the state governments could enforce their respective Poultry Farming Enactments so that all slaughtering centres were licensed, to facilitate the monitoring of their operations.
He said the enforcements of the enactments was to ensure all slaughter centres including for ducks, quails and turkeys complied with the Islamic method and were clean.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said JPV had 29 halal cattle abattoirs.
“We are offering halal certification to 46 private sector cattle abattoirs,” he added.
