The Malaysian Islamic Religious Department (Jakim) today said claims that chicken being sold at a certain supermarket were not slaughtered according to Islamic rites were false.

Its Halal Hub Monitoring and Enforcement assistant director Muhammad Naim Mohd Aziz said Jakim and the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry found the chicken to be from a halal source.

“We found that the suppliers for the supermarket possess halal certificate so there is no need to doubt,” he told reporters here today.

According to him, the department received a report following claims that were circulated on Facebook, along with pictures.

“Jakim would like to advise consumers not to overreact or readily believe rumours,” he said.
