CYBERJAYA, Universiti Islam Malaysia (UIM) today signed two memorandum of understandings (MoUs) with CIMB Islamic which will fully fund the setting up of the Chair for Waqf and Islamic Finance Management Studies and, CIMB Islamic Primary Resources for Islamic Finance Special Library.
CIMB Islamic Chief Executive Officer Badlisyah Abdul Ghani said both initiatives, to be fully funded at a cost of RM2 million by the bank, would enhance networking opportunities between the Islamic finance industry and higher learning institutions besides boosting industry-based research and development.
“We are seriously looking at providing deep comprehension of Shariah-based banking and finance materials so that all parties involved in the relevant industries possess holistic understanding of the field.
“I believe UIM has the capabilities to push these initiatives through and I look forward to the end-results that will surely be a necessary resource for the industry,” Badlisyah said at the signing ceremony. Witnessed by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, UIM President Tan Sri Prof Dr Mohd Yusof Noor signed the MoUs on behalf of the university while CIMB Islamic was represented by Badlisyah.
Meanwhile, Mohd Yusof said CIMB Islamic was the first Malaysian-based Islamic finance player to fully support the International Institute of Waqf and Islamic Finance Management and UIM academic division by generously contributing to the establishment of the primary Resources for Islamic Finance Special Library for UIM. “This will enable UIM to pursue activities in the areas of the integration of knowledge and wisdom particularly in the sphere of Islamic finance resources,” he said.
The UIM Chair for Waqf and Islamic Finance Management Studies aimed to provide research leadership in areas that would complement both parties in existing research work with specific interest in the role of Islamic Finance and Waqf management. It would drive capability and capacity development, as well as, dissemination of integrated knowledge and wisdom globally in the areas of Waqf and Islamic finance management.
The IMB Islamic Primary Resources for Islamic Finance Special Library would house selected books, manuscripts and other library materials which would be an indispensable resource for teaching and research activities in Islamic finance.
