Will the G-20 Presidency Help Indonesia Become a Global Halal Hub?

Will the G-20 Presidency Help Indonesia Become a Global Halal Hub?
2022-03-28 by Hafiz M. Ahmed

Indonesia’s upcoming presidency of the G20 group in November 2023 presents a unique opportunity to propel its ambitions of becoming a global Halal hub. This first-ever G20 presidency for the nation carries the theme “Recover Together, Recover Stronger,” emphasizing global collaboration and sustainable development during the ongoing pandemic recovery.

Leveraging the G20 Platform

Indonesia can leverage the global spotlight of the G20 presidency to showcase its strengths in the Halal industry:

  • Promoting Indonesian Halal products: The summit presents a platform to connect with international stakeholders, including investors, industry leaders, and government representatives, to promote Indonesian Halal products and highlight the country’s robust Halal ecosystem.
  • Facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration: The G20 can serve as a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration with other leading Halal producers to share best practices, address challenges, and drive innovation within the global Halal industry.
  • Attracting investments and partnerships: By fostering awareness of Indonesia’s commitment to the Halal sector, the G20 can attract foreign investments and encourage the formation of strategic partnerships that can accelerate the growth of the domestic Halal industry.

Beyond the G20

While the G20 summit presents a valuable platform, long-term success hinges on sustained efforts beyond the event:

  • Mobilizing resources effectively: Indonesia needs to strategically utilize its resources, such as investing in infrastructure, developing human capital, and streamlining regulations, to create a supportive and competitive environment for the Halal industry.
  • Enhancing standardization and certification: Strengthening standardization and certification processes will further bolster the credibility and trust of Indonesian Halal products in the global market.
  • Promoting public-private partnerships: Collaboration between government and private stakeholders is crucial for developing a comprehensive and sustainable strategy to nurture and empower the domestic Halal industry.

Indonesia’s G20 presidency presents a significant opportunity to advance its aspirations of becoming a global Halal hub. By effectively leveraging this platform, coupled with long-term strategic efforts, Indonesia can position itself as a leading force in the global Halal market.
