ADIB
2024-06-15 by Aamer Yaqub

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), a prominent Islamic financial institution, has recently celebrated a significant digital milestone: surpassing one million registered users on its mobile banking application. This achievement represents a 100% increase from 500,000 users in 2021, highlighting the rising popularity and effectiveness of ADIB’s digital banking platform.

Digital Growth and Innovation

ADIB’s mobile banking app has become a crucial tool for new-to-bank customers, with a growing number of individuals opting to open their accounts using the app. Currently, 80% of ADIB’s client base actively utilizes the bank’s digital services. In response to this increased demand for convenient digital banking solutions, ADIB has introduced an enhanced account opening journey that leverages Emirates Facial Recognition (EFR) and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology.

The new process allows customers to scan their Emirates ID, provide personal details, and take a selfie to open an account instantly. Once the account is set up, customers receive a digital personalized debit card that can be accessed immediately through their mobile wallet, streamlining the onboarding experience.

Continuous Development and New Features

In the past year, ADIB has prioritized continuous development and added 54 new features to its mobile app to cater to evolving customer needs. These features include:

  • IPO subscriptions
  • Push notifications
  • Enhanced consumer protection measures
  • Robust security protocols for transactions

Fernando Plaza Lopez, Chief Digital Officer at ADIB, commented on this achievement: “Reaching one million mobile app users is a significant milestone for ADIB. We remain committed to continuous improvement by prioritizing innovation and user experience. Our goal is to make banking seamless and accessible for all our clients. By leveraging EFR, OCR, and real-time integrations, we are streamlining the process and offering a more personalized banking experience.”

Ghina Savings Account and Customer Benefits

In addition to the technological advancements, ADIB has introduced the new and improved Ghina Savings Account. This account offers customers the chance to win a million dirhams every month, along with 45 other monthly cash prizes. Plaza added, “We believe this is a significant step forward in making banking faster, easier, and more accessible for everyone. By popular demand, this journey also enables customers to open our new Ghina Savings Account, enhancing their banking experience and providing exciting rewards.”

Latest Statistics and Market Position

ADIB’s commitment to digital transformation is evident in its latest statistics. The bank has seen a significant rise in mobile app usage, reflecting the broader trend of increased digital banking adoption. According to recent market research, digital banking in the UAE is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.5% from 2021 to 2026. ADIB’s innovative approach and customer-centric solutions position it as a leading player in this rapidly evolving market.

ADIB’s achievement of surpassing one million mobile app users underscores its dedication to providing innovative and convenient digital banking solutions. By continuously enhancing its mobile app with new features and leveraging advanced technologies like EFR and OCR, ADIB is setting a benchmark in the Islamic banking sector. The bank’s focus on user experience and personalized services ensures that it meets the evolving needs of its customers, making banking more accessible and rewarding.

As ADIB continues to prioritize digital transformation, it is well-positioned to lead the way in the future of Islamic banking, offering seamless and efficient services to its growing customer base.
