It is a time for boundless gratitude, for strengthening family bonds, for reaching out to our communities, and for drawing closer to the Almighty through acts of unparalleled submission.

We prepare for our Qurbani, a symbolic act of sacrifice that reconnects us to the divine command and reminds us of humility and abundance. We look forward to shared meals, joyous gatherings, and the echoing Takbirat that fill our mosques and homes.

But this year, as in far too many years past, our joyous anticipation is profoundly tempered by the agonizing reality unfolding in Palestine.

How can our hearts fully celebrate, when the very essence of Eid al-Adha – of sacrifice, of faith, of justice – is being brutally challenged in a land that holds such sanctity for us all? While our tables might be laden with blessings, our Palestinian brothers and sisters endure starvation, displacement, and systematic destruction. While our children play safely, theirs witness horrors unimaginable, their laughter replaced by the sounds of falling bombs and mournful cries.

Let us be clear: this Eid al-Adha, our prayers, our thoughts, and our deepest solidarity are unequivocally with the people of Palestine.

In Gaza, a suffocating blockade persists, turning life into a relentless struggle for survival. Homes lie in rubble, hospitals are decimated, and the most basic necessities of life are weaponized. Families, clinging to fragments of hope, endure unimaginable suffering, robbed of their past, present, and future. In the West Bank, daily aggressions, land confiscations, and systemic oppression erode their very existence. The sanctity of Al-Aqsa, our third holiest site, remains under constant threat.

Yet, amidst this unrelenting torment, the Palestinian people display a resilience (sumud) that shames us all. Their steadfastness, their unyielding faith, and their unwavering attachment to their homeland and identity are a beacon of defiance and hope. They are forced to make the ultimate sacrifice every day – of loved ones, of homes, of dignity, of normalcy – embodying the spirit of Eid al-Adha in its rawest, most heart-wrenching form.

This Eid, let our Qurbani not only be a physical act but a profound spiritual pledge. Let it be a sacrifice of our complacency, our silence, and our detachment. Let it be a renewed commitment to justice, to truth, and to standing firmly with the oppressed.
