Redefining Halal Tourism in Bosnia and Europe: A Conversation with the CEO of 5D Travel

Redefining Halal Tourism in Bosnia and Europe: A Conversation with the CEO of 5D Travel
2026-01-29 by Hafiz M. Ahmed

At The Halal Times, we recently spoke with the Chief Executive Officer of 5D Travel, a Bosnia and Herzegovina–based halal-friendly tourism company that is positioning the Balkans as an authentic and faith-conscious travel destination for international audiences. With a professional background in communications and a growing reputation as a trusted destination management and logistics partner, she is helping shape how Muslim and family-oriented travelers experience the region. In this interview, she reflects on her personal journey, her vision for ethical and sustainable tourism, and how 5D Travel is developing tailored experiences that extend beyond conventional travel.

Executive Summary: The Future of Halal Tourism in Bosnia In this exclusive discussion with The Halal Times, the CEO of 5D Travel provides a roadmap for Bosnia’s emergence as a premier European Halal destination. This interview explores the intersection of cultural heritage, halal-certified infrastructure, and the growing demand for authentic Balkan experiences. Key insights include the strategic importance of Sarajevo and Mostar, the integration of traditional hospitality with modern halal standards, and why Bosnia is uniquely positioned to serve the global Muslim traveler seeking “Nature-Plus-Faith” experiences.

1. Could you briefly share your personal journey in the travel and tourism industry and what ultimately inspired you to lead and grow this company?

My professional background is actually in communications. I hold a Master’s degree in Public Relations and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. I didn’t initially plan to enter the tourism industry, but my journey began quite naturally when I secured my first role at one of the leading travel agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Over the years, I worked with several agencies, gaining hands-on experience across operations, sales, client relations, and logistics. After moving between a few companies, I realized that the next step was not about changing where I worked, but about changing how I worked.

That realization led me to apply for a startup program supported by our local municipality. The program recognized my idea and provided the support needed to launch 5D Travel.

The concept behind 5D Travel grew from a desire to promote Bosnia and Herzegovina as a halal-friendly and authentic destination, while also positioning ourselves as a reliable logistics and destination management partner—not only for Bosnia, but for the wider Balkan region.

2. Bosnia and Herzegovina is still an under-explored destination for many international travelers. What makes Bosnia uniquely attractive, especially for Muslim and family-oriented travelers?

Bosnia and Herzegovina is truly a hidden gem in the heart of Europe.

What makes Bosnia special is not only its natural beauty and rich history, but also the way people live together. Muslims, Catholics, Orthodox Christians, and others have shared this space for centuries. This coexistence has shaped our culture, our values, and our strong sense of hospitality.

Visitors often tell us that what they feel most deeply here is warmth and sincerity. People are genuinely welcoming, respectful, and open. For Muslim travelers and families, Bosnia offers a unique balance—Islamic heritage and halal options combined with European comfort, safety, and accessibility.

3. What was the original vision behind founding 5D Travel, and how has that vision evolved over time?

The original vision was centered on halal-friendly tourism, sustainability, and ethical travel. However, once I stepped into entrepreneurship, that vision naturally expanded.

I intentionally moved into a segment I had not previously worked in—incoming tourism and the business travel sector. Being a host on your own ground, welcoming international guests, delegations, and partners, is a powerful way to contribute to your country.

Today, 5D Travel works with international and regional partners and offers tailor-made leisure travel, MICE services, and logistics support. While we do handle outgoing travel upon request, our primary focus remains Bosnia and the Balkans—because this is where we can create the most meaningful value.

4. 5D Travel is known for carefully curated, tailor-made experiences. How do you design your packages differently from conventional agencies?

At 5D Travel, no two journeys are the same.

We do not offer fixed, mass-market packages. Every itinerary is individually adapted based on the guest’s pace, interests, cultural background, and expectations.

One important aspect we always clarify is pricing. Bosnia is often perceived as a “cheap” destination, but high-quality hotels, private transportation, professional guides, and personalized logistics are priced at an international level.

We primarily work with halal-friendly and Muslim-friendly hotels that meet specific standards. We are not the cheapest option in the market, and that is a deliberate choice. Clear budget expectations help us design the right experience for the right guest. Not every traveler is seeking this level of personalization—and that is perfectly fine.

5. Halal-friendly and faith-conscious travel is growing globally. How does 5D Travel cater to Muslim travelers while still appealing to a wider audience?

5D Travel is officially halal-friendly certified (BAS 1049:2023, aligned with SMIIC standards), which provides our Muslim guests with confidence and transparency.

This certification reflects our attention to halal food, prayer breaks, hotel selection, cultural sensitivity, and overall comfort. At the same time, our services remain open and appealing to non-Muslim travelers who value authenticity, ethical practices, and personalized experiences.

In our understanding, halal-friendly travel is not restrictive—it is respectful, inclusive, and well-structured.

6. What are some common expectations or misconceptions international tourists have about Bosnia before arriving?

Many people still associate Bosnia primarily with Yugoslavia or the war. Others assume it is either over-hyped or underdeveloped.

However, once they arrive, their perception often changes completely. Guests frequently extend their stay, return for a second visit, or explore the wider Balkan region. Bosnia surprises people—with its beauty, safety, hospitality, and depth.

7. From a business perspective, what were the biggest challenges in building 5D Travel?

Visibility and trust have always been the greatest challenges.

However, once you are confident in the quality of your work, that foundation cannot be taken away. My experience has been surprisingly positive. Trust, recommendations, and word-of-mouth remain the strongest forms of marketing. Everything else can be purchased—but trust must be earned.

8. How does 5D Travel contribute to sustainability and responsible tourism?

We actively support local communities by working with local guides, family-run hotels, farms, and small businesses.

We promote slow travel, responsible group sizes, respect for cultural and historical sites, and authentic local experiences. For us, sustainability is not a trend—it is a responsibility.

9. Which markets are you most focused on, and who should be paying attention to Bosnia right now?

We welcome travelers from around the world, but the UK market is currently very important due to the availability of direct flights. We also work extensively with guests from the GCC, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Interestingly, many travelers find their way to Bosnia even without direct connections, because once they choose Bosnia, we can design itineraries that include the Balkans or other parts of Europe.

In practice, travelers who do not require visas tend to make decisions more quickly, but global interest continues to grow.

10. For travelers considering Bosnia, what experience can they expect with 5D Travel?

I personally enjoy welcoming our guests and getting to know them.

Imagine being in a foreign country and knowing that someone is always there to help, guide, and support you. Bosnians are naturally compassionate and hospitable people, and at 5D Travel we combine that spirit with professional service and strong organizational structure.

When a home-like approach meets high-quality logistics, the result is a genuine experience—not just a trip.

5D Travel is not just travel. It is an experience we create together.

The Halal Times Perspective: Why Bosnia Appeals to Generation Z

The insights shared by 5D Travel resonate deeply with the preferences of Generation Z Halal consumers. As identified in our research on What Generation Z Wants from Halal Brands, this demographic prioritizes authenticity, ethical sourcing, and “instagrammable” nature-based travel. Bosnia’s ability to offer unfiltered cultural immersion combined with modern halal convenience makes it a high-growth market for the next generation of Muslim globetrotters.
