Islamic Services of America (ISA), a trailblazer in U.S.-based Halal certification since 1975, has significantly strengthened its global standing. On May 20, 2025, ISA formalized a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) at the Indonesian Embassy in Washington, D.C. This pivotal agreement highlights ISA’s dedication to ensuring Halal integrity and streamlining the export of U.S. Halal-certified beef and other products to Indonesia.
This strategic collaboration aims to boost bilateral cooperation, guaranteeing that U.S. exports, particularly beef and consumer goods, meet both Indonesian and globally recognized Halal standards. Beyond facilitating trade, it also supports Indonesia’s vital food security initiatives and promotes transparent, accountable, and credible Halal certification mechanisms.
As a founding member of the World Halal Food Council, ISA consistently leads in shaping international Halal standards. ISA’s global recognition is further underscored by its accreditations and formal acceptance by prominent Halal authorities in Indonesia (BPJPH), Malaysia (JAKIM), and Singapore (MUIS). This robust Halal partnership aligns with the U.S. Government’s “Farmers First” initiative, designed to increase domestic job growth and expand infrastructure development. It also provides crucial support through USDA grant and loan programs, especially for small and mid-sized farms and businesses in rural and agricultural areas.
Jalel Aossey, President of ISA, commented on the agreement: “This collaboration with BPJPH marks a significant milestone in our mission as an industry leader in the global Halal market. We are dedicated to supporting the growing demand for Halal products and ensuring compliance with diverse international standards.” Dr. Haikal Hasan, The Head of BPJPH, added, “Halal industry development has contributed significantly to creating jobs in Indonesia and we believe this Halal collaboration could also extend its value and benefits to the American people and the US economy.”
For over five decades, ISA has been at the forefront of Halal certification, serving a diverse clientele across North America and beyond. This new partnership with BPJPH not only reinforces ISA’s critical role in facilitating global trade but also its commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the rapidly expanding Halal market.
