MBSB Bank partners with Zurich General Takaful Malaysia to launch three bancatakaful products covering homes, workplaces, and personal accidents.

2026-07-25 by Hafiz M. Ahmed

MBSB Bank has signed a bancatakaful partnership with Zurich General Takaful Malaysia Berhad to distribute three new general, or non-life, takaful products through its branch network, the two companies announced on July 24, 2026. The deal widens access to Shariah-compliant protection for homeowners, individuals, families, and businesses, according to Fintech News Malaysia and (Re)in Asia, both of which reported the announcement the same day.

The three products span home, workplace, and personal cover: Zurich Homeowner Premier Takaful for residential properties, Zurich MBSB GPA Takaful for workplace accident protection, and Personal Sentinel V3 Plus Takaful for individual and family accident cover, all distributed through MBSB’s branch network, according to Fintech News Malaysia.

A Third Bancatakaful Partner in Under Four Years

(Re)in Asia, in its own coverage of the announcement, described the arrangement as giving Zurich General Takaful access to MBSB’s customer base and branch network, the same distribution model the bank has used with its other takaful partners. The Zurich tie-up isn’t MBSB’s first move into general takaful distribution, and it isn’t even the bank’s first bancatakaful partner this year. In December 2022, Takaful Ikhlas and MBSB Bank signed a five-year bancatakaful partnership targeting RM500 million in contributions, per BERNAMA, covering both family products such as mortgage reducing term takaful and general lines including motor, houseowner, fire, and personal accident takaful. Then, on May 5, 2026, MBSB Bank entered a 10-year strategic bancatakaful service agreement with FWD Takaful Berhad, launched at the St. Regis Hotel in Kuala Lumpur and reported by The Star. That deal centered on family takaful, headlined by Takaful SmartGain, a savings plan that lets customers accumulate wealth over time while carrying protection cover. The Zurich announcement fills out the general-insurance side of that roster: rather than a first foray into non-life protection, it is MBSB adding a dedicated general takaful partner to a distribution lineup that already spans family and general lines. Other insurers have been expanding takaful distribution as well; Etiqa recently introduced new takaful products with a charity pledge in Singapore.

What the Three Products Cover

The first product, Zurich Homeowner Premier Takaful, protects residential properties and household contents against unexpected events. The second, Zurich MBSB GPA Takaful, lets businesses and organizations provide employees with financial protection in the event of accidental death, disablement, or injury, a workplace category adjacent to the personal-accident cover Etiqa Philippines launched for family protection. The third, Personal Sentinel V3 Plus Takaful, offers financial support to individuals and families following unforeseen accidents. Each operates on takaful’s mutual, contribution-pooled structure, distinct from other savings vehicles in the ways an earlier comparison of takaful and mutual funds on halaltimes.com lays out. MBSB Bank’s own website already hosts product disclosure sheets for related Zurich General Takaful Malaysia offerings, including Fire Takaful, Money Takaful, Employer’s Liability Takaful, and Houseowner or Householder Takaful, confirming the products flow through the bank’s wealth management and protection channel.

Executives Frame It as a Bundling Play

Rafe Haneef, Group CEO of MBSB Berhad, said: “Customers are looking for a more complete relationship with their financial institution. They expect banking and protection to work together in ways that are practical and relevant to everyday needs.” Junior Cho, Country CEO of Zurich Malaysia, said the arrangement is built for the long run: “Through this long-term collaboration with MBSB Bank, we are expanding the reach to Syariah-compliant protection solutions that support customers at different stages of life.”

Neither company disclosed a contribution target or contract term for the Zurich arrangement, a contrast with the five-year, RM500 million target set in the Takaful Ikhlas deal and the explicit 10-year horizon of the FWD agreement. More general takaful products are expected under the Zurich partnership, according to Fintech News Malaysia’s reporting, extending MBSB’s roster beyond the three lines launched this week and adding to a bancatakaful lineup that now spans three separate takaful operators in under four years.
