Pakistan Boycotts Israeli-Linked Products, Labels Netanyahu as ‘Terrorist

Pakistan Boycotts Israeli-Linked Products, Labels Netanyahu as ‘Terrorist
2024-07-23 by Aamer Yaqub

The government of Pakistan has launched a nationwide boycott of Israeli-linked products, following intense negotiations led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the far-right political party Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). This decisive action is in response to Israel’s military operations in Gaza and aims to express solidarity with the Palestinian people. The boycott is part of a broader strategy to support Palestine and protest against Israeli actions in the region.

Formation of a Committee for Israeli-Linked Products

A new committee has been established to identify and boycott companies in Pakistan that are directly or indirectly supporting Israel’s military operations in Gaza. This decision was announced by Rana Sanaullah, an advisor to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The committee will scrutinize businesses and products that may contribute to Israeli military activities, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to the Palestinian cause.

Agreement with Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan

The TLP had organized a large rally and sit-in near Islamabad, demanding a ban on Israeli products and declaring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a ‘terrorist.’ The protest ended after the government agreed to the TLP’s demands, which included providing increased humanitarian assistance to Palestinians and identifying businesses that financially support Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

Humanitarian Assistance

As part of the agreement, Pakistan will send 1,000 tons of aid, including food and medicine, to Gaza. This commitment underscores Pakistan’s long-standing support for the Palestinian people and its stance against Israel’s military actions. The government has also expressed readiness to bring injured Palestinians to Pakistan for medical treatment, offering the facilities of local schools and hospitals for their care.

Social Media Campaigns and Public Demonstrations

The boycott movement has gained momentum through social media campaigns and public demonstrations across Pakistan. These efforts have amplified the call for global and Muslim community support to hold Netanyahu accountable for the atrocities committed against Palestinians. The Pakistani government continues to urge international bodies and nations to recognize Netanyahu as a terrorist and bring him to justice.

The boycott of Israeli-linked products marks a significant move by Pakistan’s government, designed to apply economic pressure on Israel while showing steadfast support for Palestine. This initiative aligns with Pakistan’s broader strategy to synchronize its economic policies with its political and humanitarian stance on the Palestinian issue, demonstrating a strong commitment to advocating for Palestinian rights and condemning Israeli actions in Gaza. By implementing this boycott, Pakistan aims to influence international discourse and encourage global solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
