Dot Boosts Halal and Muslim-Friendly Ph Tourism at ATM 2024″ by positioning the Philippines as a premier destination at the Arabian Travel Market 2024, held at the World Trade Center in Dubai. This event, the largest gathering for tourism professionals in the Middle East, is a pivotal platform for showcasing the Philippines’ commitment to diversifying its tourism offerings.

During the market, a significant Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed, marking a milestone in the Philippines’ tour the Philippines. This MOA involves Megaworld Corporation, one of the largest property developers in the Philippines, which has pledged to transform its hotels and resorts into establishments compliant with halal standards and welcoming Muslim visitors.

The signing ceremony was a highlight of the event, with DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and Megaworld’s ManagiMegaworld’s Cleofe Albiso formalizing the agreement. Undersecretary Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakr articulated the significance of this partnership, emphasizing the government’s mission to provide a better environment for Muslim tourists. “We are putting forth our support and utmost cooperation to make sure that we attract and create stronger ties with our Muslim brothers and sisters,” Valderrosa-Abuba” r stated.

This initiative is part of a broader effort outlined in the Philippine Halal Industry Development Strategic Plan. Remarkably, the Philippines was recognized as the Emerging Muslim-Friendly Destination of the Year for non-Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries in 2023. This accolade is a testament to the country’s ongoing country’s catering to the needs of Muslim travelers.

According to the report, approximately half a million Islamic tourists visited the Philippines last year, relishing the country’s natural country’s countries. The report also highlighted that the primary sources of these tourists are from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia. Notably, tourists from the Middle East are reported to spend 6.5 times more than other international travelers, underscoring the economic impact of catering to this segment.

Secretary Frasco expressed optimism about the future of Philippine tourism, particularly in strengthening ties with the UAE region. “Overall, the future of Philippine tourism is promising for this region, especially since we have felt nothing but love from our friends here in the UAE,” she concluded.

By accommodating Muslim travelers’ dietary and cultural needs of Muslim travelers, the Philippines not only enhances its appeal as a tourist destination but also promotes cultural understanding and diversity.
