Doha: The Qatar’s Zakat Fund stands as a beacon of hope, compassion, and social welfare, dedicated to uplifting the lives of those in need. In March, the Zakat Fund Department under the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in Qatar provided financial assistance of QR33,406,870 to 660 families eligible for aid. This assistance, which includes periodic and lump-sum payments, was disbursed to registered eligible families in line with the legal Zakat massif (disbursements) and approved mechanisms. This financial support aims to help those in need and ensure their well-being in keeping with the principles of Islamic social welfare.

The total aid disbursed comprised periodic aids, provided monthly to eligible families, amounting to QR8,105,760, and lump-sum aids, which are one-time payments based on need, totaling QR25,301,110. These financial contributions are crucial in supporting families facing financial hardships, enabling them to meet their basic needs and maintain their dignity.

The Zakat Affairs Department is the official agency in Qatar responsible for collecting Zakat money and distributing it to beneficiaries within the state. It maintains the largest database of beneficiary families in the country, ensuring a transparent and efficient process of identifying and assisting those in need. This database is continually updated to ensure that the support is aligned with the families’ needs and follows Islamic principles.

Zakat, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a form of obligatory almsgiving that requires Muslims to donate a specific portion of their wealth to those in need. This practice is meant to foster a sense of solidarity, compassion, and social responsibility within the community. By collecting and distributing Zakat funds, the Zakat Affairs Department is vital in promoting social welfare and alleviating poverty in Qatar.

Individuals and companies in Qatar can fulfill their Zakat obligations by paying their dues through the Zakat Department’s website or at collection offices and points nationwide. The department ensures that the process is straightforward and user-friendly, making it convenient for individuals and organizations to contribute to this essential aspect of Islamic social welfare.

In addition to providing financial aid to needy families, the Zakat Fund Department also supports various charitable projects and initiatives to improve the living conditions of those less fortunate. This includes funding for healthcare, education, housing, and other essential services, which helps to create a more equitable society and promote social harmony.

The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is committed to upholding the principles of Islamic social welfare and ensuring that the needs of vulnerable families in Qatar are met. The assistance provided by the Zakat Fund Department is a testament to the government’s dedication to supporting its citizens and fostering a sense of community and social responsibility.

As Qatar continues to grow and develop, the needs of all members of society must be taken into account. The work of the Zakat Fund Department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, is an important component of this process, helping to ensure that no one is left behind and that all share the benefits of the nation’s prosperity.

The Zakat Fund Department’s recent disbursement of over QR33 million in aid to 660 families in Qatar demonstrates the nation’s commitment to social welfare and the principles of Islamic charity. By providing essential financial support to those in need, the department is helping create a more equitable and compassionate society where all citizens can thrive and prosper. With its impactful initiatives and unwavering commitment to charitable giving, the Qatar’s Zakat Fund continues to make a profound difference in the lives of individuals and communities, fostering a more inclusive and prosperous society.
