Quran Desecrated at Sweden Mosque During Eid al-Adha

Quran desecrated at Sweden mosque
2023-06-30 by Hafiz M. Ahmed

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – In a deeply disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the international community, a copy of the Quran was desecrated at a mosque in Sweden during the holy celebration of Eid al-Adha. The incident is being investigated as a hate crime, and authorities are working diligently to identify those responsible.

The incident took place at the central mosque in Stockholm, one of the largest mosques in the country, where hundreds of Muslims had gathered to observe the holy day of Eid al-Adha. According to witnesses, an unidentified individual entered the mosque during the prayer service, desecrated a copy of the Quran, and fled the scene before they could be apprehended.

The act of desecration, which is considered one of the most severe forms of disrespect in the Islamic faith, has left the Muslim community in Sweden and beyond in a state of shock and grief. The mosque’s imam, who discovered the desecrated Quran, described the incident as “an attack not just on our mosque, but on our faith and our community.”

The Swedish authorities have condemned the incident and have launched a full-scale investigation. “This is a deeply troubling act of hatred that goes against our values as a society,” said the Stockholm Police Chief. “We are doing everything in our power to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”

The incident has sparked a wave of solidarity from various religious and community groups across Sweden. Many have expressed their support for the Muslim community and have condemned the act of desecration. The Archbishop of the Church of Sweden described the incident as “an attack on all faiths” and called for unity and understanding among all religious communities.

This incident comes at a time when reports of Islamophobia and hate crimes against Muslims are on the rise in several parts of the world. Advocacy groups have called for increased protection for religious sites and stricter laws against hate crimes.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. As the Muslim community grapples with this act of hatred, the message from the wider Swedish society is clear: such acts of intolerance will not be tolerated, and every effort will be made to ensure justice is served. Through dialogue, education, and a collective commitment to upholding the sanctity of all religious texts, we can work towards fostering a world where such acts of desecration are replaced with understanding, compassion, and unity.
