Selangor Aims for 60%+ Market Penetration at International Halal Convention

Selangor Aims for 60%+ Market Penetration at International Halal Convention
2024-06-28 by Aamer Yaqub

KUALA LUMPUR — The Selangor International Halal Convention (Selhac) 2024 is scheduled for October 16 to 19, aiming to significantly enhance the halal industry’s market reach. Integrated into the larger Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2024, this event marks a pivotal moment for Selhac. It promises greater exposure, extensive networking opportunities, and strategic business matching for participants, thereby driving growth and innovation in the global halal market.

Growth Projections in Selangor Halal Convention

Dr. Mohammad Fahmi Ngah, Selangor Islamic Affairs and Cultural Innovation state executive councilor, announced ambitious targets for the upcoming event. Selangor aims to increase the potential transaction value by 10%, reaching RM61 million, compared to RM55.7 million in the previous year. Additionally, the convention expects over 60% successful market penetration from the 150 participating companies, significantly enhancing business opportunities through strategic networking sessions (Selangor Journal).

Expanded Participation and Visitor Engagement

For the first time, Selhac will be held in conjunction with SIBS, which is expected to double visitor numbers from 8,000 to over 16,000. This collaboration will provide a comprehensive platform for businesses to engage with a broader audience, including local and international exhibitors from diverse sectors such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, health, cosmetics, personal care, tourism, and hospitality.

Strategic Themes and Innovations

The 2024 convention will focus on three key themes: halal certification, logistics, and digital innovation. These areas are crucial for addressing current industry challenges and promoting growth. The event will feature over 200 exhibitors and host a series of conferences, seminars, forums, and business matching sessions designed to foster strategic partnerships and enhance the global footprint of the halal industry.

Regional and Global Impact

Selhac plays a vital role in positioning Selangor as a gateway to the ASEAN halal market, which boasts a population of 650 million, with 60% being Muslims. The convention’s strategic importance is underscored by its alignment with broader economic plans, such as the First Selangor Plan (RS-1), which identifies the halal industry as a key sector for economic growth.

New Initiatives and Collaborations

In addition to the traditional exhibition and networking opportunities, Selhac 2024 will introduce new initiatives aimed at supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in obtaining halal certification and integrating digital innovations. This year’s event will also see strategic cooperation with international partners, including Tanzania, to enhance the halal industry’s supply chain and tourism sectors.

The Selangor Halal Convention 2024 promises to be a landmark event, driving significant growth and innovation in the halal sector. By leveraging the expanded platform provided by SIBS, Selhac is poised to create substantial business opportunities and reinforce Selangor’s position as a leading hub for the global halal industry.
