2024-09-14 by Hafiz M. Ahmed

We regretfully announce the passing of Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Yaqoob, a prominent figure and pioneering entrepreneur in the UK Halal Food Industry. Sheikh Yaqoob, who passed away on August 17, 2024, was widely regarded as a transformative leader whose contributions helped establish and expand the Halal food sector in the United Kingdom.

Born on December 17, 1933, in India, Sheikh Yaqoob immigrated to the UK in 1954 to pursue a degree in medicine. However, recognizing the growing need for Halal food options within the Muslim community, he shifted his focus toward a business venture that would revolutionize the industry. His pioneering vision led to the establishment of one of the country’s first Halal food businesses, a move that would fundamentally shape the landscape of Halal food supply in Britain.

At a time when Halal food was scarce, Sheikh Yaqoob’s entrepreneurial insight and commitment to meeting the religious needs of the Muslim population propelled him to become one of the most influential figures in the sector. His business operations not only catered to the needs of the Muslim community but also created thousands of jobs, contributing significantly to the UK economy. Over the decades, his enterprise expanded, solidifying Sheikh Yaqoob’s status as a key player in the British food industry and a respected leader within the wider business community.

Beyond his business endeavors, Sheikh Yaqoob’s impact extended to his extensive philanthropic activities. He was instrumental in the development of numerous mosques, charitable organizations, and community programs aimed at improving the welfare of the Muslim community. His commitment to philanthropy included funding education initiatives, promoting social services, and supporting underprivileged families. His efforts, both in business and in charity, were recognized globally, earning him multiple lifetime achievement awards and industry accolades.

Sheikh Yaqoob’s leadership and vision helped the Halal industry in the UK grow into a multi-billion-pound sector. His business acumen was matched only by his dedication to ethical practices and corporate responsibility. His work not only set a benchmark for UK Halal Food Industry production in the UK but also advanced public understanding of Halal practices across British society.

His family was central to his life, and he is survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, and thirteen grandchildren. Sheikh Yaqoob’s influence extended across generations, and his family remains dedicated to preserving his legacy of service, both in the business world and within the community.

As a global figure in the Halal food industry, Sheikh Yaqoob leaves behind a lasting legacy that will continue to influence and inspire future entrepreneurs and leaders. His contributions to the British economy and the Muslim community will be remembered for generations. Sheikh Yaqoob’s passing is not only a loss for his family but also for the industry and the many individuals whose lives he touched.

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, we express our deepest condolences to his family, colleagues, and the wider community. His remarkable vision, integrity, and philanthropic spirit will be sorely missed. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Yaqoob’s enduring legacy will continue to shape the future of the Halal industry in the United Kingdom and beyond.

May he rest in peace.
