SINGAPORE, Sept 27, 2025 — The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) will roll out a new halal certificate featuring a QR code for validity verification starting October 1, 2025, as announced at the Singapore Halal International Seminar on September 24 at Hilton Singapore. This update allows food establishments to display a single certificate without needing replacements upon renewal, streamlining the process for businesses.
Scanning the QR code provides access to a digital page detailing the establishment’s certification status and validity, along with an option to report suspected misuse. Previously, consumers had to email Muis to verify a shop’s halal status. The new system enhances transparency and convenience.
From October, all halal certificate holders, including poultry abattoirs and central kitchens, will transition to fully digital certificates. Food outlets displaying physical certificates must adopt the new format by March 2026.
Muis also launched an online portal, accessible at https://fhcb.muis.gov.sg, to simplify the recognition process for foreign halal certification bodies exporting to Singapore. Replacing the previous email-based system, the portal reduces application processing times. Currently, 101 foreign bodies are recognized, with details available on the portal for businesses importing halal food.
Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Associate Professor Faishal Ibrahim, emphasized Singapore’s commitment to rigorous halal standards, which bolster trust for the 15% Muslim population and global food industries. “Halal certification is critical to our food security, given Singapore’s limited resources,” he said, highlighting the enhanced framework’s role in ensuring the integrity of imported halal products.
Consumers can report suspected fraudulent activity via email at info@muis.gov.sg.
