The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a National Terrorism Advisory System bulletin on June 22, 2025, of a “heightened threat environment” in the US military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, named “Operation Midnight Hammer.” The strikes, ordered by President Donald Trump on Saturday night, targeted Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan using B-2 stealth bombers and over 125 aircraft, aiming to dismantle Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Iran had warned Trump at the G7 summit of potential sleeper-cell terror attacks on U.S. soil if attacked, raising fears of retaliation.
The advisory highlights risks of low-level cyber attacks by pro-Iranian “hacktivists” and more severe attacks if Iran’s leadership issues a religious decree for violence. Cities like Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and New York have increased patrols around religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites. The bulletin, lasting 90 days, urges vigilance but notes no specific threats and does not raise the national threat level. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the strikes, warning of “everlasting consequences” and seeking Russian support in Moscow.
Border security concerns have also surged, with officials like Border Czar Tom Homan warning of Iranian nationals entering during the Biden era. The State Department issued a worldwide travel advisory, urging Americans abroad to exercise caution due to potential anti-U.S. demonstrations. Over 300 people have been killed in Iran since the strikes began, per Iranian officials, while Israel reports 24 deaths from Iran’s retaliatory missiles. Global leaders, including the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, called for de-escalation, warning of a broader conflict.
