Chickens Being Fed Haram Feed
2023-06-08 by Hafiz M. Ahmed

Unveiling the concerning truth behind chickens being fed Haram feed, raising questions about food integrity and religious compliance. The consumption of halal food is of paramount importance to many individuals, and recent concerns have emerged regarding chickens being fed Haram feed, sparking a necessary discussion on the matter. When we buy food, we expect it to be safe to eat. However, a recent viral message on Malaysian WhatsApp Groups has raised concerns about the halal status of local chickens. The message claims that chickens are being fed haram food, specifically items extracted from the remains of pigs.

Is there any truth to this claim?

The Veterinary Services Department (VSD) has denied the allegations. In a statement, the VSD said that the claim is illogical and that there is no evidence to support it. The VSD also said that the production of commercial chicken feed is governed by strict regulations, and that any use of haram ingredients would be immediately detected.

In a statement, the Veterinary Services Department (VSD) denied the allegations, saying that the claim that commercial chicken feed contains ingredients derived from the remains of pigs is unfounded.

The VSD said that the claim is an old issue that surfaced in 2007, and that it has been repeatedly debunked by the department and other experts.

The VSD said that there are strict regulations governing the production of commercial chicken feed, and that any use of non-halal ingredients would be immediately detected.

The VSD urged the public to refrain from spreading the false claim, and to source their information from reliable sources.

The Veterinary Services Department (VSD) has denied allegations that commercial chicken feed contains ingredients derived from the remains of pigs. The VSD said that it had answered these allegations in 2016, with the help of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim).

The VSD said that the claim is illogical because it would not only involve a high production cost, but also because the use of any blood meal or bone meal requires VSD approval.

The VSD explained that the production of commercial chicken feed is governed by the Feed Act 2009, which controls the quality of animal feed in the country. The VSD said that the feed used for chickens is made up of the following ingredients:

  • 55% corn kernels
  • 25% soya bean meal
  • 15% other ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, fish meal, wheat bran, wheat pollard or corn gluten meal
  • 5% palm oil or crushed rice
  • As consumers, it is essential to stay informed and demand transparency to ensure the integrity of the halal status in the food industry, including the feed given to chickens.

Make an informed choice for your well-being and religious observance by opting for poultry products from trusted sources that prioritize Halal standards and feed quality.
The VSD urged all Malaysians to be constantly careful with the spread of baseless information on social media.
