Inspection Identifies 32 Brunei Food Outlets Operating Without Halal Certification

Without Halal Certification
2023-06-24 by Hafiz M. Ahmed

Step into a culinary world that goes beyond restrictions as we explore the realm of dining options “Without Halal Certification”. In a recent operation, enforcement officers from the Halal Food Control Division at the Syariah Affairs Department in Brunei discovered 32 out of 87 food outlets in Serusop operating without having applied for Halal Certification. As a result, the department issued these establishments notices, instructing them to apply for the required certification within a six-month timeframe.

The Syariah Affairs Department emphasized that acquiring a Halal Certificate or Halal Permit is a compulsory regulation for food businesses in the country. The recent inspection aimed to ascertain that all food outlet proprietors have taken steps to secure this crucial certification.

Officials from the department urgently appealed to food outlet operators without either the Halal Certificate or the Halal Permit, urging them to forward their applications to meet the legal requirements promptly.

Failure to abide by these regulations could potentially lead to severe repercussions. Noncompliant operators could face legal action, resulting in penalties that include a fine of up to BND8,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or in severe cases, both.

The department also issued a reminder to holders of the Halal Certificate and Halal Permit. It underscored the necessity of maintaining the validity of their certificates and permits and submitting their applications for renewals at least three months before the existing ones expire. This ongoing effort by the Syariah Affairs Department aims to bolster the integrity of Brunei’s food outlets, ensuring that all operators uphold the country’s Halal food standards. Embrace a gastronomic adventure that knows no bounds, where flavors from all corners of the globe come together to tantalize your taste buds in a world “Without Halal Certification”.
