Malaysia is opening a long-term residency route to international investors, entrepreneurs and foreign talents through the Malaysia Premium Visa Programme (PVIP), a government initiative administered by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Immigration Department of Malaysia. The program is designed to attract international capital, business activity and talent while giving approved participants a longer-term base in the country.
Under the PVIP, eligible participants can receive residency for up to 20 years, with a multiple-entry visa facility. Unlike programs that impose a minimum number of days that participants must spend in the country each year, the PVIP does not require a minimum stay, giving participants greater flexibility to divide their time between Malaysia and their other international commitments.
The program also provides a broad range of privileges. PVIP participants may work and conduct legal business activities in Malaysia, undertake permitted investments, pursue studies and purchase residential, commercial or industrial property, subject to Malaysian laws and the requirements of the relevant authorities. The program also allows approved participants to bring eligible family members, including spouses, children, parents and foreign domestic helpers.
For international businesspeople and investors, the combination of long-term residency and the ability to maintain an active presence in Malaysia is a central feature of the program. Malaysia’s location in Southeast Asia also provides access to a region that has become increasingly important to international trade, investment and business expansion.
The PVIP is not an automatic residency arrangement, however. Applicants must meet the program’s eligibility and financial requirements and submit applications through agencies authorized by the Malaysian government. The Immigration Department maintains an official list of authorized PVIP application agencies.
For prospective applicants, the official Malaysian government and Immigration Department portals provide the latest information on eligibility, application procedures, authorized agencies and program requirements. Requirements and administrative procedures can change, so applicants should verify the current rules directly with Malaysian authorities before making financial or relocation decisions.
