Muslim Women in Travel – Sadia Ramazan’s Inclusivity Call at 3rd Halal Congress

2024-05-25 by Hafiz M. Ahmed

At the 3rd International Halal Congress in Izmir, Turkey, Ms. Sadia Ramazan delivered a compelling speech addressing the unique needs and desires of Muslim women in the travel industry. Her address highlighted the importance of creating inclusive and safe travel experiences for Muslim women worldwide.

Ms. Ramazan, who runs The Muslim Women Travel Group, emphasized the significance of female-led tours and guides in her speech. “We yearn for guides who not only understand our cultural sensitivities but also resonate with our experiences as women,” she stated. She explained that having female guides empowers Muslim women to navigate unfamiliar territories with confidence and reassurance, fostering an environment where they can openly express themselves and forge meaningful connections.

“Safety is paramount in our travels,” Ms. Ramazan continued. She pointed out that Muslim women often face scrutiny and must be constantly vigilant, which detracts from the joy of travel. By prioritizing women-only spaces, the travel industry can provide a sanctuary where Muslim women feel secure, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in new experiences without fear or apprehension.

Ms. Ramazan’s advocacy extends beyond mere gestures of inclusion. She called for active investment in training and empowering women to take on leadership roles in the travel industry. “By nurturing female talent and expertise, we not only enhance the quality of our tours but also pave the way for greater diversity and representation within the industry,” she said.

Throughout her speech, Ms. Ramazan underscored the transformative power of empathy and understanding in creating inclusive travel experiences. She encouraged the audience to work together to build a future where Muslim women can travel freely, confidently, and without compromise.

“The journey towards inclusive and empowering travel experiences begins with every one of us,” Ms. Ramazan concluded. Her call to action resonated with the audience, highlighting the need for continued efforts to ensure that the travel industry meets the needs and wants of Muslim women globally.

Ms. Ramazan’s speech at the congress serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing challenges Muslim women face in the travel industry and the vital role inclusivity plays in overcoming these challenges.
