Noor Takaful Insurance Limited and Noor Health Ltd will host the 2026 Surplus Distribution Ceremony in Lagos on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, according to Nairametrics and THISDAY. The event will bring together regulators, participants, enrollees, healthcare providers, brokers, and corporate partners, per Nairametrics.

Following this year’s distribution, Noor Takaful will have returned more than N1.3 billion in surplus to participants since it began operations in January 2017, according to Nairametrics, which also reports that Noor Health, licensed by the National Health Insurance Authority, will become the first Health Maintenance Organisation in Nigeria to distribute surplus to eligible enrollees. THISDAY reported the same N1.3 billion cumulative total on August 7.

Every Year Since 2017

Noor Takaful was licensed by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) in April 2016 and commenced operations in January 2017, per Nairametrics, which describes the company as Nigeria’s pioneer and leading composite takaful insurer. It has distributed underwriting surplus every year since inception, according to Nairametrics; THISDAY reported that the distribution has occurred every year since 2017. Rilwan Sunmonu, Managing Director of Noor Takaful Insurance Limited, framed that record as intrinsic to the Takaful model: “Since commencing operations in 2017, Noor Takaful has consistently fulfilled one of the most distinctive promises of the Takaful model by returning surplus to eligible participants every single year.”

Noor Health’s part in Tuesday’s ceremony is a first for Nigeria’s health insurance sector. The company is licensed by the National Health Insurance Authority, and it will be the first HMO in Nigeria to return surplus to eligible enrollees, according to Nairametrics.

What an Earlier Distribution Looked Like

None of the reports on this year’s ceremony reviewed by The Halal Times gives an amount for the 2026 distribution. Punch reported on September 22, 2025, that Noor Takaful distributed N404.19 million in surplus covering the 2023 underwriting year, with more than 1,000 participants entitled to the distribution. At that point the company had returned a cumulative N1 billion in surplus and paid N11 billion in claims since January 2017, with about 20,000 participants signed up, according to Punch. Shuaibu Ahmed, Chairman of Noor Takaful Insurance Limited, was quoted by Punch as saying: “We are not just celebrating numbers on a balance sheet; we are celebrating trust, partnership, and the very essence of the Takaful model: cooperation and shared prosperity.”

A Market Without a Takaful Baseline

Nigeria’s insurance industry recorded N2.3 trillion in gross premiums written in the fourth quarter of 2025, with gross claims of N724.7 billion, according to data from NAICOM’s Research and Statistics Department reported by The Sun. That figure covers the entire industry, and NAICOM doesn’t publish a separate premium baseline for takaful, so no share of that market can be attributed to Noor Takaful or its peers. The Lagos ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11.
