In an announcement that has reverberated through meat distribution chains in New York and New Jersey, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has confirmed a large-scale recall of halal meat products.
E.N.A. Meat Packing Inc., an established slaughterhouse located in Paterson, New Jersey, is proactively recalling an estimated 58,000 pounds of its frozen, raw halal meat offerings. The products in question include beef tripe, beef feet, and lamb tripe. A primary concern cited by the USDA is that these items underwent insufficient inspection protocols.
Documents provided by USDA officials indicate that the said products were manufactured over an extended period between January and August of the current year. Distributors and retail outlets spread across New York and New Jersey have reportedly received shipments of these products.
Furthermore, the USDA has advised consumers that, regardless of the packaging date imprinted on these meat products, all should be treated as potential subjects of this recall.
In a detailed inquiry conducted by the Food Safety and Inspection Service, it was revealed that E.N.A. Meat Packing Inc. had been operating outside of approved parameters. The agency’s findings underscored that the company had been producing beef and lamb products without the requisite approvals, marking a significant breach in standard operating procedures.
Despite the considerable volume of meat products affected, the USDA has, thus far, not received any confirmed reports linking them to illnesses among consumers.
As of the last update, representatives from E.N.A. Meat Packing Inc. were unavailable for comment on Thursday. For individuals seeking more comprehensive details regarding this recall, the USDA’s official website offers extensive resources and updates.
