Saudi Arabia to Fine and Deport Unauthorized Pilgrims During Hajj 2024

Saudi Arabia to Fine and Deport Unauthorized Pilgrims During Hajj 2024
2024-06-01 by Aamer Yaqub

As the sacred journey of Hajj 2024 approaches, Saudi Arabia has reiterated its strict policies regarding unauthorized pilgrims. In a statement on Tuesday, Fatima Usara, spokesperson for the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), highlighted new measures communicated via a letter delivered to Nigeria’s foreign affairs ministry by the Saudi Arabian embassy on May 22.

Usara emphasized the importance of adhering to the directives from the Saudi Council of Senior Scholars and the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. “This is to remind or inform the public of the warning issued by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against participating in Hajj without a valid Hajj visa,” Usara stated.

Heavy Fines and Deportation for Violators

The Saudi Ministry of Interior has outlined severe penalties for those attempting to perform Hajj without proper authorization. Unauthorized pilgrims face deportation and a hefty fine of 10,000 SAR (approximately USD 2,666). This move is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader effort to regulate the influx of pilgrims and ensure the safety and orderliness of the Hajj process.

NAHCON has also received similar warnings through Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reflecting the firm stance of the Saudi Council of Senior Scholars. In a recent fatwa (legal ruling), the Council urged all Muslims to respect the regulations designed to facilitate a safe and peaceful Hajj experience.

Beware of Fraudulent Agents and Companies

In addition to the strict visa regulations, the Saudi Ministry of Interior has cautioned potential pilgrims against falling prey to fraudulent companies and individuals. Numerous fake accounts and agents on social media claim to offer Hajj packages using Umrah, tourism, work, family visits, and other types of visas at attractive rates. These scams not only risk the pilgrims’ safety but also contravene Saudi Arabia’s stringent Hajj policies.

Ensuring a Smooth Hajj 2024 Experience

Saudi Arabia has made significant investments in infrastructure and technology to manage the millions of pilgrims expected for Hajj 2024. These measures include advanced crowd control techniques, enhanced transportation networks, and improved health and safety protocols.

 Importance of Compliance

Adherence to these regulations is crucial for a smooth and harmonious Hajj experience. Unauthorized attempts to perform Hajj not only disrupt the meticulous planning and resource allocation but also pose significant risks to individual safety and public order.

As Hajj 2024 draws near, all prospective pilgrims must secure the appropriate Hajj visas and follow the guidelines set forth by Saudi authorities. The penalties for non-compliance are severe, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to maintaining the sanctity and safety of this holy pilgrimage.

By staying vigilant and adhering to these directives, pilgrims can ensure a safe, serene, and spiritually enriching Hajj 2024 experience.
