Sharm El Sheikh to Host the 2nd International Competition

2024-06-10 by Aamer Yaqub
Sharm El Sheikh, a renowned resort town in Egypt, is set to host the second edition of the International Competition for Quranic Geniuses from July 25-28, 2024. Organized by the country’s Awqaf Ministry, this prestigious event aims to celebrate and encourage exceptional talent in Quran memorization and recitation.

A Global Gathering

Building on the success of the first edition, this year’s competition promises to be even more remarkable. Governor Khaled Fawda of the South Sinai Governorate has highlighted the meticulous planning and coordination with various bodies to ensure the event runs smoothly. The competition will be held at the historic Sahaba Mosque, known for its stunning architecture and cultural significance.

Objectives and Programs

The primary goal of the competition is to identify and nurture geniuses in Quranic studies, promoting Islamic culture and spreading religious awareness. The Awqaf Ministry has outlined several programs to enhance the experience for participants, including visits to Egypt’s historical and cultural sites. This initiative not only enriches the competitors’ knowledge but also highlights Egypt’s rich heritage in preserving and promoting the teachings of the Holy Quran.

Prize Details

The competition will be held in two stages, with participants vying for substantial cash prizes. Winners will receive rewards ranging from 100,000 to 2.3 million Egyptian pounds, a significant increase from the previous year’s prizes. This financial incentive underscores the importance placed on excellence in Quranic studies and encourages broader participation from across the globe.

Participation and Categories

The event will see participation from over 60 countries, reflecting its international stature. Last year’s event included four categories for young men, women, and teenagers, a format expected to continue this year. The broad range of categories ensures inclusivity and provides a platform for diverse talents to shine.

Promoting Islamic Culture

Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mukhtar Gomaa emphasized the competition’s role in promoting Islamic culture and educating participants about Egypt’s efforts in serving the Holy Quran. This aligns with the broader objective of fostering a deeper understanding of Islamic values and teachings among the youth.

A Showcase of Talent

The competition also aims to showcase talents from different parts of the world, providing a unique opportunity for participants to learn from each other. The exchange of ideas and techniques in Quran memorization and recitation fosters a sense of global Islamic unity and brotherhood.

The 2nd Edition of the International Competition for Quranic Geniuses in Sharm El Sheikh is set to be a landmark event. It celebrates the profound skills in Quranic memorization and recitation, promotes Islamic culture, and brings together a diverse group of participants from around the world. With significant cash prizes and extensive programs, this competition not only honors the best talents but also enriches their cultural and religious understanding.
