UNICEF Reports Thousands of Starving Children in Southern Gaza Cut Off from Aid

Treating a malnourished child typically requires six to eight weeks of uninterrupted care, including special therapeutic food and formula. However, these items are scarce, and the collapsed water and healthcare systems further complicate the situation.

Dr. Haj-Hasan explained that a simple illness, such as a viral infection or diarrheal disease, could lead to a malnourished child’s death. “You end up in this vicious cycle where recurrent bouts of diarrhea, illness, and malnutrition lead to further health deterioration,” she said.

Israel has faced accusations of committing genocide against Palestinians, a charge it denies. Francesca Albanese, the U.N. special rapporteur for the region, released a report earlier this year suggesting that Israel’s actions since October could amount to genocide.
