Where Are the Modest Fashion Brands for Muslim Women?

Where Are the Modest Fashion Brands for Muslim Women?
2022-02-07 by Hafiz M. Ahmed

Where are the modest fashion brands for Muslim women? Why is it so difficult for us to find fashion brands which cater specifically to Muslim women? Where are they located online or offline?  How can I find them easily without scrolling the scores of pages on the internet?

What is Modest Fashion?

The term modest fashion or modest dressing refers to a fashion trend in women of wearing less skin-revealing clothes, especially in a way that satisfies their religious and stylistic requirements for reasons of faith, religion, or personal preference. This term especially resonates with Muslim girls and women from all parts of the world. The mainstreaming of the modest fashion movement has made modest dressing a little easier for Muslim women.

What is Modest Clothing?

Interpretations of modesty differ across religious boundaries and even within them. In Islam, both men and women are required to dress modestly. However, Muslim women have special clothes that many of them choose to wear to protect their modesty. Many Muslim women wear a hijab or veil to cover their body parts while still looking stylish and graceful. Some Muslim women wear a niqab or a burkha as well.

Islam asks Muslim women to dress modestly. However, Muslim women in every culture can decide how and which dresses they should wear to cover their body parts modestly while in public.

When Did The Term Become Popular?

Although Muslim women of all ages are advised to dress modestly, the term ‘modest fashion’ became a buzzword in fashion magazines, and newspapers in 2017 and 2018. Before the decade was out it had become a recognizable trend, especially among Muslims. . Fashion influencers used to promote the concept of modesty.  Later on, it became something that was of interest not just to Muslims but to a broader audience of women as well.

But, apart from this, the modest fashion industry has grown to become a $277 billion industry. To grab the growing market internationally, a lot of mainstream brands as well as well newly inspired entrepreneurs have been jumping on the bandwagon.

Where Are the Modest Fashion Brands for Muslim Women?

The rise of the modest fashion industry in many parts of the world has prompted many major fashion outlets to start offering modest fashion clothing lines to attract Muslim women who are looking for stylish clothes with a modest twist. They include Uniqlo, H & M, and a few other major brands as well.

Apart from the big brands, a plethora of other smaller brands have also started offering modest apparel for Muslim women and mainstream consumers who are looking for modest fashion clothing. Modest fashion entrepreneurs are linking commerce and religion to satisfy the growing needs of their Muslim clients.

Both Turkey and Indonesia have taken the lead in this regard. A lot of modest fashion brands have opened their online shops there to attract Muslim consumers from all over the world.

Modanisa is the most notable one started by a Turkish company. In a short few short years, it has developed its reputation as a major modest fashion.  Dedicated modest retailers, such as the Modist and Aab, display jumpsuits and cropped pants on their websites.

We find many Southeast, Middle Eastern, and African companies offering modest apparel to women all around the world.  It is not a fad anymore. You will find all types of media outlets talking about modest fashion. It has become a part of a mainstream trend.

According to The New York Times, “the trend reflects a broader movement on the internet as devout women use social media to discuss, celebrate and experiment with modest fashion?. Unlike the popular perception in the mainstream media, modest fashion does not limit Muslim women to compromise on style or any part of their lives.
