Are All Halal Certifiers Globally Recognized?

2022-10-31 by Islamic Services Of America

Not all Halal certification agencies are the same.  There are a few key factors to consider when deciding which Halal certifier is right for you.  For domestic and/or global Halal product certification, one should determine how well known is the certifier, how experienced are they, and what is their global reach?  Is the certifier well established in your country and are they accepted by the Halal governing bodies in the regions you want to serve?

Islamic Services of America (ISA) meets these criteria and more.

What is Halal?

In Islam, Halal is an Arabic term meaning “lawful or permissible”. It applies to all matters of daily life from food, cosmetics, packaging and more. “Halal Food” simply refers to anything permissible to eat. For a full list of Halal Products click here.

What is a Halal Certification?

Halal certified guarantees that the product or service meets the requirements of Islamic law and therefore are suitable for consumption. The certification process ensures the quality of the products according to the rules established by the Islamic Council that allow the use of the mark Halal.

Are All Halal Certifiers Accepted Globally?

A Halal certification agency follows and conducts the Halal Certification process in order to confirm that your product is fully Halal compliant according to international Halal standards.  Not all Halal certifiers are the same.  Each Halal certifying organization must apply their expertise in the Halal industry from both religious and technical aspects and be represented by qualified Muslim experts in the field.

Top certifiers are well versed in international Halal standards and have staff who have participated in overseas Halal conferences and attended formal Halal training programs.  Part of this includes the formal recognition or accreditation by overseas Halal governing bodies that serve particular countries and regional markets.

Among the best known and longest existing Halal governing bodies are JAKIM in Malaysia, LPPOM MUI in Indonesia and MUIS in Singapore among others.

When choosing a qualified Halal certifier it is most advantageous to choose a certifier that understands, upholds and supports international standards and above all, has been established for decades and provides timely, professional and attentive value-added services.
