Malaysia and Guinea-Bissau Bolster Halal Industry Collaboration
In June 2025, Malaysia and Guinea-Bissau reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties, with a significant focus on the halal industry. During a three-day official visit by Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, the first-ever by a head of state from the West African nation, both countries emphasized cooperation in halal certification, Islamic finance, energy, and capacity building. Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim highlighted Guinea-Bissau as a strategic gateway for Malaysia’s expansion into Africa, encouraging companies like PETRONAS and FGV Holdings to explore opportunities in the region. Total trade between the two nations reached RM4.1 million in 2024, with Malaysia’s exports dominating at RM4.04 million. The Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) will further support Guinea-Bissau through scholarships and training in governance, agrotechnology, and public administration.
Malaysia’s Halal Industry Ambitions with Poland
While specific recent developments between Malaysia and Poland in the halal industry are less documented, Malaysia’s global halal strategy continues to expand. Poland, a key European player in agriculture and food production, has shown growing interest in halal markets due to its robust meat and dairy sectors. Malaysia’s stringent halal certification, recognized in over 47 countries, positions it as a potential partner for Poland to tap into the global halal market, projected to exceed USD 300 billion by 2026. Collaborative efforts may include knowledge-sharing on halal standards and certification processes, leveraging Malaysia’s expertise to enhance Poland’s export capabilities to Muslim-majority regions. Malaysia’s neutral foreign policy and ASEAN centrality further facilitate such partnerships, aligning with its broader goal of expanding trade with emerging economies.
