Record Number of Buyers Registered For INSP MIHAS 2023
2023-09-04 by Hafiz M. Ahmed

KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) has surpassed its target for international buyer registrations for its premier International Sourcing Programme (INSP) at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2023.

The INSP MIHAS initiative offers meticulously planned one-on-one business meetings, both in-person and online, bridging international buyers with Malaysian purveyors of Halal products and services. The in-person segment of INSP is slated for 11 September at Menara MATRADE, Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, the virtual meetings span from 20 March to 30 November. Notably, registration and participation come at no cost.

This year, INSP MIHAS is set to welcome an impressive roster of over 470 buyers from 40 nations, spanning regions from the Middle East, Europe, Central and South Asia, to Southeast Asia, Oceania, the Americas, and Africa.

MATRADE’s CEO, YBhg. Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, expressed, “The surge in international buyer participation this year underscores MIHAS’s reputation as the go-to platform for premium halal products and services. This presents a golden opportunity for Malaysian enterprises, especially SMEs, to seamlessly connect with genuine overseas buyers.”

Reflecting on the past year, Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz noted, “The previous INSP MIHAS facilitated connections between 510 Malaysian firms and 389 global buyers, culminating in deals valued at RM745.20 million for our exporters. We anticipate a similarly prosperous program this year. We urge Malaysian entrepreneurs to seize this unparalleled chance to broaden their export horizons by engaging with international buyers.”

Furthermore, Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz highlighted that for this year’s INSP MIHAS, Malaysian businesses can anticipate interactions with 11 elite buyers from nations including Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Qatar, Turkey, the UK, France, and Australia. These buyers are affiliated with some of the most prominent conglomerates, retailers, and supermarket chains in their respective countries.

The international buyers attending INSP MIHAS this year are particularly interested in sourcing from diverse Halal sectors such as:

  • Food & Beverage
  • Food Technology & Packaging
  • E-Commerce
