The World Halal Business Conference (WHBC 2025) is set to strengthen Malaysia’s role as a global leader in the Halal economy. Scheduled for 18–19 September 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur, the two-day forum will be hosted by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and organized by the Halal Development Corporation (HDC).
Since its launch in 2007, WHBC has become Malaysia’s flagship platform for thought leadership in the Halal industry. The conference brings together world leaders, policymakers, and industry pioneers to address challenges and explore opportunities in the rapidly growing Halal economy. Over the years, WHBC has expanded globally with successful editions in Melbourne, London, Riyadh, and Algiers, reflecting the international importance of the Halal sector.
This year, the event will carry the theme “Halal Beyond Boundaries”, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity. The theme aligns with Malaysia’s Halal Industry Master Plan 2030, a national strategy designed to steer the Halal ecosystem toward greater competitiveness and integration on the global stage.
A Global Gathering of Leaders
WHBC 2025 is expected to welcome more than 1,000 participants, including ambassadors, government officials, corporate leaders, academics, entrepreneurs, and representatives of civil society. The event will feature high-level keynote speeches, panel discussions, and thematic dialogues.
A highlight of the conference will be the Townhall Session, chaired by Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Chairman of the Halal Industry Development Council, alongside MITI Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz. This interactive session will focus on Malaysia’s strategies for the Halal economy, international collaborations, and efforts to strengthen sustainability and growth across industries.
Strategic Industry Focus
The program will bring together some of the most influential companies shaping the Halal industry today. Industry giants such as Duopharma Biotech, Hong Leong Islamic Bank, and Dutch Lady Milk Industries are expected to participate, providing case studies and insights on how businesses can scale their Halal operations globally.
Panels will cover a wide range of topics, including:
Supply chain transparency and logistics
Investment flows and cross-border partnerships
Digital transformation in Halal certification
Ethical business practices and consumer trust
Expanding Halal opportunities in finance, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and food
By highlighting both challenges and innovative solutions, the conference aims to give businesses actionable strategies to navigate an increasingly competitive global market.
Malaysia’s Vision for the Halal Economy
For Malaysia, the Halal economy is more than an industry—it is a pillar of national identity and a driver of economic growth. Through WHBC 2025, the country aims to reinforce its reputation as a hub for Halal certification, innovation, and integrated ecosystems.
Malaysia has consistently ranked among the world’s leading nations in Halal governance, developing internationally recognized standards and certification systems. With the Halal Industry Master Plan 2030 as a guide, Malaysia seeks to ensure that Halal products and services meet the demands of Muslim and non-Muslim consumers alike.
The plan emphasizes five pillars: inclusivity, sustainability, innovation, global partnerships, and brand trust. WHBC 2025 will provide the platform to demonstrate how these principles are being translated into real-world strategies.
Benefits for Different Stakeholders
For policymakers and government agencies
The conference provides an opportunity to refine Halal strategies, enhance regulatory frameworks, and strengthen international cooperation. It also serves as a venue for Malaysia to reaffirm its commitment to driving the global Halal agenda.
For businesses and investors
WHBC 2025 offers a valuable networking platform to connect with potential partners, discover new markets, and explore opportunities for collaboration. With a focus on practical solutions, companies can gain insights into logistics, supply chain management, and product innovation.
For academia and researchers
The Halal economy is rapidly evolving, and research plays a crucial role in shaping its direction. WHBC 2025 encourages collaboration between universities, think tanks, and industry players to expand knowledge and foster innovation.
For advocacy groups and the wider community
By promoting dialogue around ethics, inclusivity, and sustainability, the conference also benefits NGOs and social organizations that aim to promote responsible business practices in line with Halal values.
Why WHBC 2025 Matters Globally
The global Halal market is projected to continue its strong growth, driven by rising demand for certified products and services across Muslim-majority and non-Muslim countries. With growing awareness of Halal as a symbol of safety, quality, and trust, businesses are increasingly keen to integrate Halal compliance into their global operations.
WHBC 2025 stands out as a platform where stakeholders can discuss harmonization of standards, digital certification systems, and best practices that can enhance transparency. It also encourages collaboration between traditional industries and emerging technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and big data—tools that can transform Halal supply chains.
By placing Malaysia at the center of these discussions, the event highlights the country’s unique position as both a market leader and a trusted partner in the Halal economy.
Looking Ahead
As WHBC 2025 unfolds, it is expected to not only shape conversations but also drive concrete actions that will influence global Halal development for years to come. The conference will strengthen Malaysia’s role as a catalyst for innovation, cross-border partnerships, and sustainable economic growth.
For participants, the event represents a chance to align with the future direction of the Halal industry, gain access to new markets, and build trust with increasingly discerning consumers. For Malaysia, it is an opportunity to once again demonstrate leadership and vision in a field where it continues to set global benchmarks.
